Directors of Nordic police training institutions to meet at the Police College of Finland on 6 to 7 September
The directors of police training institutions in the Nordic countries will meet in Tampere on 6 to 7 September to discuss topical issues in police training and the possibilities to increase cooperation between the institutions.
"One central theme will be the renewal of degree structure. With the exception of Iceland, all Nordic countries are reforming the degree structure of police education with a similar objective: to strengthen the role of police education institutions as institutions of higher education," explains Kimmo Himberg , Director of the Police College of Finland.
The participants to the meeting will also address topics such as the possibility of increasing student exchange.
"The Nordcop exchange programme intended for students in the Diploma in Police Studies programme is relatively active, and the number of students taking part in an exchange programme has already been increased. Now could be the time to create closer cooperation on teacher level. Exchanging experiences with colleagues is always very useful," Himberg states.
The meeting between the directors of police training institutions in Finland, Sweden, Norway, Denmark and Iceland is organised annually, with the countries taking turns in hosting the event. In addition to the directors of the schools, a director of training or a deputy director from each school will be present at the meeting.
