Illegal Dumping and the Shadow Economy – Current Status in Finland and the Baltic Sea Region
The project consists of a study into the current status and future trends of illegal dumping and illicit waste trafficking in Finland. The aim of the project is to gain an understanding of the scale of these phenomena, and of the roles and activities of parties that contribute to combating and investigating crime of this kind. The understanding gained from the project will be used to identify short-term and long-term goals, as well as weaknesses in legislation and the operations of the authorities. Cross-border illicit waste trafficking as a form of environmental crime will also be examined.
