BlockWaste – Blocking the Loopholes for Illicit Waste Trafficking
The project aims at strengthening the fight against illegal waste shipments and illegal trade in waste in Europe. The project produces information on the threats and risks associated with illegal waste shipments in order to support strategic planning.
Illegal activities in the waste sector have an adverse effect on the environment, human health and economy. The project will identify illegal operating practices relating to waste trading and shipments, and estimate the amount of illegal earnings made in the waste sector. It will also analyze legislation to see if it can be amended to better expose and prevent criminal activity. Results of the project can be used to improve cooperation between authorities across borders.
