Remote controlled unmanned aerial vehicle system development project (Drone in a box)

The Police University College is investigating how a remote controlled unmanned aerial vehicle (drone-in-a-box) system could be utilized in operational police work.

The project will see the installation of a weather-protected docking station on the roof of the Police University College building. This docking station will contain an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) in constant readiness. The drone-in-a-box (DIB) station and devices will be controlled remotely from the situation center of Central Finland Police Department. The project includes practical trials and their evaluation, as well as recommendations for follow-up actions.

These trials will be replicated in the test area of Southeastern Finland Police Department.

Timescale: August 2025 - December 2026

Project partners: Central Finland and Southeastern Finland police departments

Funding: No external funding will be used in the project
