Development of competence and structures for gaming police activities (GAMING POLICE)

The GAMING POLICE project develops new multi-professional activities to prevent and combat harmful activities and crime targeting children in the world of digital gaming. The aim is to improve police availability and accessibility and the operational capability of the police in gaming platforms and discussion forums, and offer help to risk groups and crime victims. The project focuses particularly on sexual violence targeting children, cyber crime, and violent radicalization and extremism. The gaming activities also aim to prevent and combat hate crime.

The targeted impacts:

  • Gaming activities improve the preventive situational awareness of the police and partners of the phenomena and trends in the digital gaming world.
  • The result will be a concept and training model for gaming activities of the police, including a training package and manuals for various target groups.
  • Police units utilize gaming activities to support crime prevention and preventive operations based on knowledge management.
  • A nationwide network and coordination points for gaming police activities and basis for international cooperation will be created during the project.

Timescale: April 2024 – March 2027

Project partner: Ostrobothnia Police Department and National Police Board. The team responsible for implementation also cooperates with the National Bureau of Investigation’s Cybercrime Exit project.

Funding: The EU Internal Security Fund (ISF) has granted 90 per cent support to the project. The project’s total budget is approximately EUR 694,000.
