International activities
We participate in a number of international joint activities with other actors in the security sector.
These activities include training cooperation, cooperation with educational institutions, international visits, joint research and development projects and international exchange programs.
Education and networking
We are responsible for the activities of the European Union Agency for Law Enforcement Training (CEPOL) in Finland, and act as the CEPOL National Unit. CEPOL promotes European law enforcement cooperation, for example, by organizing courses, webinars, seminars and officer exchange. The Police University College’s team for international relations organizes the CEPOL activities implemented in Finland and coordinates international cooperation.
We take part in national cooperation in the field of civilian crisis management and in international training projects.
Research and development projects
Our research and development work serves the planning and development of policing and internal security. The data produced is also used for education at the Police University College. Some of the research and development projects are international.

Exchange programs for students and staff
We participate in the European Union’s Erasmus+ student exchange. Police students can also participate in short-term student exchange organized by police educational institutes in the Nordic countries, Germany and Estonia.
Police University College staff, both academic and administrative, also have the opportunity to take part in the Erasmus+ exchange. In practice, the exchange can be a study visit or an on-the-job learning period at a higher education institute in another Erasmus country. Our staff can also take part in the CEPOL exchange program of officials in EU member states.
