Procsead – Preventing Circulation of online Child Sexual Abuse Material 

The Procsead Project aims at inhibiting the distribution of Child Sexual Abuse Material (CSAM) on the darknet. It produces new information on the different user groups of CSAM, how people end up using it and groups of child sex abusers on the darknet.

Procsead is part of the ReDirection Project, which aims to prevent sexual crimes against children. The specific objective is to create a self-help program for CSAM users with the aim to prevent the searching of CSAM. 

Timescale: September 2020 – September 2022

Partners: Protect Children, Hospital District of Helsinki and Uusimaa Mental Hub, Training Institute of Prison and Probation Service of Finland/ Criminal Sanction Agency, Ahmia.fi search engine, and Havas Helsinki

Funding: End Violence Against Children Fund grant for “Technology Solutions to Make Digital Spaces Safe for Children”. The total budget is approximately EUR 574,000, of which the Police University College’s share is approximately EUR 112,000.
